How color blind glasses work
1. They filter specific light
Red-green color blindness happens when the red and green cone responses overlap too much, so those signals blur together. The lenses use a notch filter that removes a narrow band of light where red and green overlap most.
2. They boost color separation
By cutting that overlap, the remaining red and green signals are pulled further apart, so the brain receives a stronger difference between them. Colors that looked muddy can look more separated and saturated. That is an enhancement, not new color vision.
3. They help some, not all
This works best for mild-to-moderate red-green (protan/deutan) deficiency. People with a strong or complete deficiency, or with blue-yellow (tritan) deficiency, usually see little or no benefit. Bright daylight versions tend to work better than indoor ones.
